The field trip is limited to 22 people and includes on presentations on the first day by Dr Alison Pouliot and Simon Rickard, morning and afternoon tea, lunch and canapes at the conclusion of the day where you can discuss learnings of the day.
The second day includes a small group field experience led by Dr Pouliot exploring the cultural significance, ecological importance, conservation requirements and identification of fungi in the Yass region. Guides books and meals are included.
Alison will introduce you to the fascinating world of Fungi. Her experience indicates that the roots of almost every plant in the Australian landscape are intimately entwined with fungi but little is known about them. These clandestine relationships extend beyond the trees to include every orchid and most shrubs and grasses. Symbioses are the secret to success in our highly variable climate. The workshop includes the basic principles of fungus identification, using both the senses and other resources and guides to identify diagnostic features
Simon is a skilled, knowledgeable and entertaining gardener and musician. He will discuss some of the ecological principles he applies to create atmospheric gardens that respond to the climate.
